Leigh Wood's journey from local gyms to sold-out arenas is a testament to his dedication and fighting spirit. The Nottingham-born boxer started his career in humble beginnings, fighting out of leisure centers. However, his passion and talent propelled him to the top.

Wood's rise wasn't without setbacks. In early 2020, he lost his WBO European title defense. But this defeat only fueled his determination. A year later, with a new trainer by his side, he returned with a bang, securing a career-defining win over Reece Mould. This victory marked a turning point, culminating in a spectacular knockout win against Can Xu that same year, claiming the prestigious WBA featherweight title.

Despite the setback, Wood remained undeterred. The highly anticipated rematch with Lara took place in Nottingham in February 2023. The fight took another dramatic turn when Lara missed weight, making him ineligible to win the title. Wood capitalized on this twist of fate, securing a unanimous decision victory and reclaiming the WBA featherweight championship.

In October of 2023, Wood prolonged his WBA world feather title against Josh Warrington.
